Fundamentals of the Christian Faith

Fundamentals of the Christian Faith

Fundamentals of the Christian Faith

■    Jude 3

■   “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”

■    What subjects of the faith should we as believers contend for?

1.     The Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ

■    Isaiah 7:14

■    "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel”

■     Matthew 1:18-23 - The fulfillment of this prophecy

■     Romans 5:12

■     “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

2.     The Deity of Jesus Christ

■    Matthew 1:23 - “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

■    John 8:51-53, 56-58

■    “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. ”

■    John 1:1,14

■    “the Word was God.,... And the Word was made flesh,”

■     I Timothy 3:16

■    God was manifest in the flesh,”

3.     The Blood Atonement of Jesus Christ

 ■   Hebrews 9:12, 22

■    “by his own blood,...obtained eternal redemption for us.”

■    “without shedding of blood is no remission.

■    Colossians 1:14

■    “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”

■     Revelation 1:5b “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, ”

4.     The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

■   1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4

■   The Gospel: “Christ died for our sins,...he was buried, and that he rose again

■   Romans 10:9

■   “and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

■   What if Christ did not rise from the dead?

■   1 Corinthians 15:12-19

Six Things That Would Be True If Christ Did Not Rise From The Dead

■   Our preaching is vain (v. 14)

■   Our faith is vain (v. 14)

■   We are found false witnesses (liars) (v. 15)

■   We are yet in our sins (v. 17)

■   Those that have put their trust in Christ and have died are in hell (v. 18)

■   We are of all men most miserable (pitied) (v. 19)

5.     The Second Coming of Jesus Christ

■   John 14:1-3 - Jesus said He would come again

■   “And if I go,...I will come again,”

■   Acts 1:10-11 - The angels said He would come again

■   “this same Jesus, ...shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. ”

■   Hebrews 9:28 - The Apostles preached He would come again

■  “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. ”

6.      The Bible Is The Inspired Word of God

■   2 Timothy 3:16

■    “ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God”

■   We believe in Divine Inspiration and Divine Preservation

■   Psalms 12:6,7

■   “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

More Thoughts On The Word of God

■   If a person believes that there are errors in the Bible, who then decides which part is true and which part is error?

■   When you attack a person’s word you are attacking his character.

■   Matthew 5:17

■  “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. ”

7.     Salvation By Grace Through Faith Alone

■  Ephesians 2:8,9

■  For by grace are ye saved through faith;”

■  Romans 11:6

■  “And if by grace, then is it no more of works

■  “But if it be of works, then is it no more grace

■  Galatians 5:1-2, 4

■  “Christ shall profit you nothing.”

■  “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.”
